Interview with Hank3
By: Andrew

Hank3 is one of the most prominent musicians to play neotraditional country in a country music market dominated by pop country. In addition to his honky tonk recordings, Hank3′s style alternates between hardcore punk and speed metal. He is a founding member of the punk metal band Assjack, the drummer for the Southern hardcore punk band Arson Anthem, and was the bassist for Pantera singer Phil Anselmo’s band Superjoint Ritual.

Hank3 released four new albums on September 6, 2011, a mix of country, doom-rock, and speed metal, with a little cattle callin’ here and there. Entitled Ghost to a Ghost/Gutter Town (a 2-disc country record), 3 Bar Ranch Cattle Callin’ (a metal record in the newly anointed cattle core genre) and Attention Deficit Domination (a doom rock record), these albums were released on Hank3′s own record label, Hank3 Records (through Megaforce Records), and feature guest appearances by Tom Waits, Les Claypool of Primus, Alan King of Hellstomper, and Williams’ dog, Trooper.
Hank3 is the grandson of legendary country musician Hank Williams Sr. and the son of the great Hank Williams Jr.
Our show with Hank3 has discussions about his DIY approach to music, his new label, the decision to release four albums on one day, the Melvins, and so much more. If you’re unfamiliar with Hank3, this 30-minute listen will get you up to speed.

I’m not into Hank3′s music in the slightest but man does he look like his granddad. The similarities are surreal.

I thought the same thing when he first came on the scene (when I first saw of him). I was like SNAP, HANK SR. DOING SPEED METAL. I was raised on guys like Hank Sr, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Coe etc.
