Adler’s Appetite Concert Review – 5/5/11 – Brixton – Redondo Beach, CA
By: Darius
I gladly attended the Adler’s Appetite tour opener at the Brixton, in Redondo Beach, CA on Thursday, May 5th. These are my thoughts:
Steven Adler plays with such palpable joy that it’s simply impossible to not be thrilled for him. His passion for the Appetite tunes is literally plastered all over his smiling face. Also, he and the rest of his band play the songs very, very well. The rhythm section of Adler’s Appetite is as talented as any other rock group touring today. Lonny Paul and Michael Thomas play the record note for note and have all the bravado expected from a band performing the greatest rock record of all time. Thomas, in particular, covers Slash’s solo parts as well as I’ve ever seen on stage, besides from the top-hat wearing man himself.
And than there’s Chip Z’Nuff, one of the coolest looking rock stars on earth, strutting on stage with flashy platform shoes, a tie, and over-sized sunglasses. Chip’s the man and he provides excellent harmonies when needed as well.
I must admit that lead singer Patrick Stone leaves something to be desired. It must be extremely difficult following Rick Stitch’s shoes, who left Adler’s Appetite last year to focus on his own band, Ladyjack, but he works the crowd and does an adequate job. Singing with the unique vocal style of W. Axl Rose is no small task.
Adler’s Appetite is awesome. They played two original songs at the Brixton, titled “Stardog” and “Alive.” The former is expected to be released in their upcoming album, and I can’t wait to hear a produced version, because it kicked ass live. Chip contributed some excellent backing vocals on this one. In conclusion, Adler’s Appetite put on a hell of a show at their tour opener. For $15, you’d be hard pressed to find a better show in any bar, anywhere in this country. Go check them out and celebrate the glory that is Appetite for Destruction with Steven Adler and company. Good times guaranteed.

I listened to the show on the download and Chip is just as spaced out as Steven. I think Chip is completely sober though.

He smiles because his brain is too fried to do anything else.
The new singer sucks balls.
