Buried Treasures – Discover New Music – 9/9/10
By: Andrew

Clark Vogeler (guitarist, The Toadies) mentioned this band during our conversation last week. They released two albums on RCA, both of which you must own. They’re classified as space rock, whatever that means. Both songs are from their first RCA release, You’d Prefer an Astronaut. The album art to this record and Weezer’s debut are some of the best of the 90′s.
I discovered Nerf Herder in, I believe, 1997. I went to see the Bloodhound Gang at Tramps in New York City, and they were direct support. Tramps was such a great rock club. In terms of atmosphere, I’d equate it with The Middle East in Boston. Before it closed, I saw many bands there, such as Local H, Big Wreck, Lit, The Living End, Soul Asylum, Seven Mary Three, Marcy Playground, Black Lab and many, many more that escape me at the moment. Nerf Herder is a nerd rock band. I’m not a fan of genres, but this label definitely applies. Their self-titled debut, released in 1996, is awesome. Quirky, and so totally awesome. If you’re a Van Halen fan, especially as David Lee Roth fan, you’ll enjoy this one.
This is a treasure, but the song was not necessarily buried. This is an awesome live version, both for the musical aspect, as well as Liam Gallagher acting extremely bizarre.

Please keep these posts coming. I forgot all about Nerf Herder. Shit man. Guys – check out Pantera Fans In Love by them. Classic stuff.
Noel Gallagher is a genius btw.

I remember seeing that Oasis performance in my teens. I kept thinking why he was acting like a tool. Great nostalgia.
