Mr. Shaun Glass of Dirge, Circa 2007

Shaun Glass is one of my favorite guests. He’s been on the show several times over the years, both as a member of SOiL, and as a member of Dirge. He’s willing to talk about anything, and his vast knowledge of music rivals almost everyone I’ve encountered. Overall, don’t have one bad thing to say about the guy.

I’ve listened to the last three Soil records, but have never gotten around to listening to their debut, Throttle Junkies. All three records are solid, even True Self, their first release without Ryan McCombs. I’ve seen them live several times. Off the top of my head, I’ve seen them at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City, I believe opening for Static-X in 2001 or 2002. Skrape might have been on that bill, for those of you that love obscure rock bands. I’ve seen them open for Staind at the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom in Hampton Beach, NH in September 2006. I also saw them as direct support for Mushroomhead at the Webster Theatre in Hartford, CT in October 2006. Brand New Sin opened that show. I can’t think of anything else at this moment. I might have saw them at Ozzfest as well, but don’t quite remember. All in all, a great live band. Despite the jokes at Ryan’s expense, he’s a great rock singer. That can’t be denied.

I’ve heard a lot of new Dirge songs as well, which are melodically crushing. I hope this record does well when it comes out.
