Interview with AM Conspiracy Frontman Jason “Gong” Jones Posted

I would like to personally thank everyone that listened live and waited patiently for the show to be archived on our site.

On behalf of Darius, I would like to wish you all a very happy, healthy, and safe Holiday Season.

The other day, I was watching a television program and saw a commercial where a man surprised his wife with a Lexus that just happened to be sitting in their living room. Christmas, or whatever you celebrate this time of year, is not about things. It’s about family. It’s about friends. Don’t let corporate America and the commercialization of this beautiful month blind you from what’s truly important.

I now want to take a second to talk about AM Conspiracy and their frontman, Jason Jones, who I’ll be referring to as “Gong” for the rest of the synopsis. It’s his nickname, it’s shorter, and it provides uniformity. All in all, a win-win situation. This was his second appearance on our show. His first was in March 2009.

Gong stepped up (yes, this was intentional – I couldn’t resist) to a worldwide stage when he replaced the late Dave Williams as the singer for Drowning Pool. I’ve always respected Dave Williams, as he was one of the good guys, and someone that loved making music. Also, I admired the way he changed his vocal style from the early Drowning Pool demos to Sinner. “Bodies” is and always will be a hard rock anthem, but the rest of the album was as formulaic as a Chad Kroeger song. Gong came on for Desensitized, and with the exception of the album cover, this is, by far, their best album to date, even including their latest release, Full Circle. Gong has a classic rock and roll voice, that can go from melodic, to gritty, to gutteral in the bat of an eye. With this said, naturally I kept an eye out for his next project following his exit from Drowning Pool.

I’m not one to write album reviews. Darius does a way better job. However, I will say that AM Conspiracy’s debut is solid and worth your hard-earned money. I don’t say that much, so without going into detail, get your hands on it when it’s available January 12th, 2010. You won’t be sorry. The last record I’ve said this about was Alter Bridge’s “Blackbird” and that came out years ago. As with “Blackbird” each song has its own sound, is its own beast, yet is softly nestled next to the rest of the tracks to form a solid album. No, I’m not going to use metaphors and riddles like album reviewers. What it all comes down is if something is good or bad. And this is excellent. End of story.

Gong is an awesome guest. The conversation was effortless. We talked about the record, Sevendust, Adam Duritz, Dave Chappelle, an awesome story involving feminine hygiene products, and the list goes on and on. Gong showed myself, Darius, and All Knowing Force nothing but respect, and we respect him right back. He put his heart and soul into this record and it deserves your support.

In closing, for all of those that sent me emails about my bashing of Ivan Moody’s (Five Finger Death Punch) lyrics, I am bringing proof. “War Is The Answer” contains the line “Do you take me for a fool? How’s it feel to be a tool?” Conversation over. Debate over. I’d expect those lyrics from a kid in the second grade. And if you’ve ever sat in your car, went to a show, or went anywhere and mouthed those lyrics when the song came on – now you know the reason your girlfriend has no teeth, or you haven’t been with a woman in years. Ivan Moody should ban himself from the music industry, or issue an apology, for writing such stupid lyrics.

I’d also like to thank Gong for his kind words and praise of our show during the broadcast. We take a lot of pride in our product and when we get such positive feedback from guests, it goes a long way. Validation is always nice.

AM Conspiracy’s self-titled debut album will be released on January 12th, 2010 on Burnhill Union Records.

You can download or stream the audio here. It’s 70 minutes.

Revolution is a bad ass track. Not what I want to listen to before bed. I am definitely BUYING this CD on Amazon.

Just so all you know, there are coupon codes for Amazon floating around where you can get 50% off all CD orders so if you have the code you can get this for 1/2 off when it comes out – or any other CD for that matter.

Keep up the good work guys. This was an enjoyable listen while I was fixing my sink.

After hearing Revolution and that other song (Gathering?), maybe you should ask Gong why Welt is the lead single to terrestrial radio?

Solid interview. Crazy stuff. Very funny.

I was unable to listen to the show last night. I’d appreciate it if the audio was made available at the time promised on the site. I heard some good things from those that did get to listen.

I investigated the band (not Gong) a little more since you announced he’d be appearing again and these guys are tight. I’m definitely looking forward to the album. Do you know where I can find more tracks other than the 2 on their myspace player? I heard you played some tracks last night but am sure they won’t be part of the audio file.

If Gong thinks this is going to appear in any stores he is mistaken and sadly mistaken. The only place in the NE that would have it – MAYBE – would be Newbury Comics in Boston. All the other places will do the special order crap. Great show btw. Glad you mentioned ANVIL!

The best part of any AKF broadcast is when Andrew has a door opened to comment on someone’s appearance. Over the years I’ve been able to identify when it’s coming. I knew the minute CC was mentioned he was going to have something to say about Duritz. Classic stuff.

  • Vinny said:

Disciple is spot on with that comment. Any opportunity Andrew has to some how bring anything material to the show he will at any chance.

  • Carla said:

“Material” is not the right word. I know Andrew personally and he’s as far from “material” as you’re going to get. He’s one of the hosts of the show and his opinions are quite funny. This is why we listen to AKF and not the other shit out there. Right?

The odds are against AMC to outsell 5FDP but any AMC track played during last Tuesday’s show and on AMC’s Myspace is better than anything ever recorded by 5FDP.

Andrew is good because he says things that most people think but won’t say. Don’t bash the guy.

Jennifer Aniston is ugly and looks like a weeble or however the fuck it’s spelled.

To ALL – THE TRACKS ARE ALL ON AMAZON IN SNIPPET FORM.

Gong is a dick. Met him when he was on tour with DP and the due was LIT. Total asshole.

You don’t have much of a choice on that Friends cast. Matt Leblanc might have been the best looking woman. This was a great show. I don’t think I’ll be buying the CD but this was entertaining as hell.

There’s so much slimy doubletalk in this interview I don’t know where to start. But I’ll just go with his most notable claim that this is a good album. WHATEVER. Deaf people run this stupid show. It’s been stupid forever.

@ mAAT – Thank you very much for the rare compliment.

@ Oscar – We should have asked that question. It was a decision by either the band and the label, or the label pressured the band to go with it as the first single. The only people that know are those involved.

@ zebo – The album will be available soon enough but according to the second poster in the comments section, you can stream all the songs on Amazon.

@ thedisciple – I don’t know if those parts are the best of any broadcast, but they’re definitely the most fun.

@ Bklyn Qns, Dennis – The songs were not archived because we don’t have permission, nor did we ask for permission.

@ EVERYONE – Thank you for all the positive comments. They are appreciated. We read them all and make us smile each time.
