Interview with Volbeat Guitarist Thomas Bredahl

Thomas Bredahl

Volbeat. Volbeat. Volbeat.

Some housekeeping tidbits, then Volbeat. Alright, first, the newly redesigned All Knowing Force will debut next week. Second, the newly redesigned All Knowing Force will debut next week. Goodbye bland white site. It was a fun three years.

Volbeat. This interview was prerecorded on April 5th. I wish it were possible to have them as guests during our live show, but being on the road presents certain limitations. We caught up with Thomas Bredahl for a 15 minute spot, which, honestly, was nothing more than us proclaiming Volbeat to be one of the best bands in the world. In the midst of that, we talked touring with Metallica, their new record Beyond Hell/Above Heaven, and their current U.S. tour.

We did our best to clean up the audio, as there was a lot of background noise.

This might rub some people the wrong way, but I don’t care. The fact that Volbeat has not conquered the United States is a disgrace, and is a testament to the very reason the music industry is failing. Back in the late 90’s, a band called System Of A Down went from being a club support act to headlining arenas and festivals on their Toxicity album. They were a fresh, unique sound. A chance was taken, and it paid off. Volbeat has an even more fresh, unique sound and yet they’re hard-pressed to get a U.S. push by anyone other than Jose Mangin at Sirius. This is disgusting. This is disgraceful. I have introduced Volbeat to scores of people and their minds were blown.

Anyone who reads this, or listens to this audio, and becomes a fan of the band, YOU’RE WELCOME. And next time you see that mohawked Latino Jose Mangin at a show, thank him for being the only one with enough balls to promote good music.

Volbeat plays the House of Blues in Hollywood, CA tonight (4/6/11) and they’re back in New York City at Irving Plaza on 4/27. Check their site for all dates in between.

    I could not agree more.

I’m sure what you wrote rubbed some people the wrong way but maybe they just need a kick in the ass.

Posts such as this article are the very reason I’ve loyally followed this site for years.

    Great, honest writeup.

As someone that has been booking bands into NYC clubs for close to 15 years, I would like to ***LOUDLY*** second everything written above.

It’s clear that whoever is responsible for Volbeat in the U.S. should has no clue how to promote rock music.

@ArchedIsisByleveling: Thank you for the support!

@LOCH NESS: Thank you for the kind words!

@Carla: …and when/if they conquer America, they’ll take credit for it.

@hatuespatue: That sounds like something I’d say. When, though?

@godblessya: Thank you for the kind words! And yes, like every piece Darius writes, it’s fantastic.

I saw them a little bit ago here in NYC and they are simply amazing.

I rarely agree w/ Andrew but he’s dead right here.

I wish the interview went longer and the audio was better.

We would’ve loved to have been able to speak with him longer as well. It’s difficult when bands are on tour and we have to make due with their schedules and oftentimes, lack of good cellphone reception and/or background noise.

@ALL KNOWING FORCE: Darius: So this is actually true? And not an excuse Andrew would always make up to explain similar situations?

  • Darius said:

@Cherry: Yes, it’s true. I did the legwork on this interview and I’ll gladly except a 15 minute spot if that’s all we can get.

Rockabilly-psychobilly is only good when listened to in tattoo shops. Makes me want to lick the Koi Fish on the first chick I see waiting for the doors to open at a Volbeat show.
