Interview with Brian Fair of SHADOWS FALL

30 April 2012 15 Comments

by: Darius

Brian Fair, lead singer of Shadows Fall, joined our program this past week to talk about the band and their new album, Fire From The Sky, which will be released May 15th from Razor & Tie.

As many of you know, Brian is a veteran from the metal scene and comes from a pretty substantial hotbed of talent in western Massachusetts. I’ve seen the band many times in small clubs as well as large theatres and even the main stage of Ozzfest. They bring it live, every single time.

They also have a wealth of studio material that I enjoy and am proud to display in my record collection. Their last album, Retribution, was exactly what the title implies. Vintage Shadows Fall, ready to come over and kick your ass. They definitely raised some eyebrows when signing with Atlantic Records for the previous record and the pairing didn’t last longer than one album cycle for Threads of Life.

Overall, it’s not a bad album at all. It’s actually pretty darn good, but following up The War Within was no small task. Retribution was exactly what longtime fans had been yearning for from Shadows Fall and as usual, the band hit the road for long stretches in support of the album.

Currently, the band is set to release Fire From The Sky and I can’t wait to hear it. The title track is streaming now so please check that out.

I caught the band live this past Thursday, April 26th at the Exit/In in Nashville, TN. This was the first night of the band’s current headlining tour which continues for the next couple of weeks before embarking on a sweet run with the great Fear Factory.

As always, Shadows Fall put on a tremendous show. Very few metal bands can match their musicianship. Exceptional guitar work from Matt Bachand and Jon Donais and one of the best drummers in the business with Jason Bittner. Finally, you’ve got the one and only Brian Fair, who I’m shocked sounded so good. Once you listen to this audio, you’ll understand why. His voice was fried when he talked to us and there was just a few days before the Nashville show. I can attest that he’s in good shape because he sounded great.

If you can make it out to any of their headlining shows or upcoming dates with Fear Factory, then please do so. I have never been disappointed with a Shadows Fall show and am proud to call myself a fan.

You can download or stream the audio here. If you’d like to download, right click and Save As.

The home page photo from this article is one of the best in site history. On quick glance it reminded me of the Ride the Lightning album cover until I realized it was Brian Fair’s hair.

Shads have been consistent. They’re still at that B level though. Technically I’d say they’re better than LOG. LOG just brings that fury that can’t be described.

I am going to preorder the new CD soon.

But I digress……excellent band. Good show. Don’t know if I’m picking up the new one but seeing them with FF for sure. When was that even announced?

I kinda backed up off them for a while. I lost interest after the move to Atlantic mentioned in the article. I’m curious to hear where they’re at now.

I don’t think any of their local contemporaries can compete with them when it comes to musical chops except Oli Herbert of ATR.

If the newly released song is an indication this album is going to suck.

Weak show review compared to his others.

I won’t even entertain listening to this interview or this band. The singer’s hair is dickish.

Is it me or is Shadows Fall very Sevendust consistent but in a less-than-Sevendust-successful way?

It’s the beginning of the end for Shadows Fall. Brian is a cool dude and this interview was fun but they are have been passed by by all their buddies despite being the musicianship-wise superior band.
