Darius Doesn’t Want TMZ, But I Blame Adam D

I have been a Killswitch Engage fan since I first heard “My Last Serenade” on a CD sampler nearly ten years ago. In my opinion, they peaked with The End of Heartache and have been going downhill ever since. However, Killswitch Engage is a profitable band, and their albums sell extremely well. They also sell huge amounts of tickets.

This is a man in his 30's.

This is a man in his 30's.

In all my years doing this show, I have never, and repeat never, heard a negative word mentioned about Howard Jones. It appeared his peers idolized his vocal prowess and ideals. And to be honest, that made me like the guy that much more. Unfortunately, Howard Jones is making the biggest mistake of his career by remaining silent about the circumstances that caused him to leave the current Killswitch Engage tour. In the last few days, information has surfaced that Jones’ departure came as a result of getting a woman named Allie Foster, an adult entertainer, pregnant. According to Allie Foster, Jones is also married.

I have never been a fan of public relations. In years past, public relations was necessary to put a positive spin on negative events. The advent of the internet has spawned such transparency that it’s no longer about putting a positive spin on negative events, but affirming truths and promising change. Unfortunately for Jones, Allie Foster is running her own public relations agency through Twitter as this is being typed.

As far as Miss Foster goes, or whatever her real name is, she is nothing more than a piece of trash. That poor child doesn’t stand a chance. Her focus shouldn’t be on trying to bring a child into the world, but trying to remove herself from it. If Allie Foster was my daughter, I would cry, each and every day, for the rest of my life. She is as much a pig as Adam D is an ass.

It’s fitting this happened now, as I saw the Killswitch Engage collapse coming from a mile away. Adam D still performs in a cape. This is a grown man in a cape. He looks ridiculous. It simply doesn’t work. Look, if anyone of you wouldn’t like to see him, in the cape, dropped into a maximum security prison during recreation, you’re lying. All the loyal fans will say, “Oh, they just like to have fun.” So did Cyndi Lauper. But for her, the eccentricity worked. Take Machine Head for example. Those guys look like they’re having a ball. Robb Flynn isn’t on stage in a bib. I saw Jewel on TV tonight. Would anyone care to see her perform in a Burger King uniform? I was listening to Joan Jett the other day. Would anyone like to see her perform in a bikini? People can defend Adam D all they want. His ridiculous antics detract from the music. Trust me, it’s not all about the music. If Keith Richards was 400 pounds, it wouldn’t be about the music. If Cristina Scabbia wore a cape, died her hair green and started twitching, it wouldn’t be about the music. Image matters. And if you don’t believe me, walk into work in wrinkled clothes. Go on interviews in a cheap suit. Go meet your significant other’s family in sweatpants. Then tell me if they care about your talent or what’s inside your heart. I rest my case.

Black men don’t tolerate white men in capes. I blame all of this on Adam D, his sideways hat, and his idiotic stage persona. That’s not really you, dude. Give it up. Howard did what he did out of nightly embarrassment of standing next to this moron. The true tragedy here is not that Allie Foster is a slob that can’t spell. It’s that a child is coming into the world with a mother that’s a wh*re, that a marriage is broken due to a man’s selfish actions (if he was married), and that these events, writing for emo kids, and having a guitar player act like a cartoon character, ruined what once was a band with a bright future.

Killswitch Engage’s days are numbered. Their sacrifices have wasted away. Their fire no longer burns. This is their last serenade. All the damage they’ve done cannot be reversed. Darkness has fallen. They are just barely breathing. Somewhere, a broken Howard Jones is screaming, “Can we start again?”

I want to make something very clear before things get out of control.

Adam is a tremendous talent and I truly believe he has a great mind for music and the business of music. With that said, his behavior is absolutely ridiculous for a person of any age, let alone a man in his 30’s. Put the cape aside. Put the viking helmet aside. This idiot has been on-stage and made comments about having sex with underage girls (not that he did, but he referenced it). Again, this is pathetic and sad.

He’s the type of guy that thinks he’s brilliant. You know, the type that says, “I act like this to throw you off.” It’s so sad, because the guy is so talented that he could just act like a normal human being, play on-stage like a normal being, and people would like him a whole lot more.

I beg to differ with you, Andrew. Darius wrote an amazing article and you just composed this hypocritical pile of shit. You’re a smart guy. And act like a moron and write something like this, so are you essentially like the guy you’re ripping (Adam D)?

Before I kind of avoided commenting on this blog. I read it and it was basically the same thing I’ve read over and over. You either like Adam D. (or rather his antics on stage) or you don’t. That just seems to be how it is with people.

Before I go on I’m not angry at all. I’m approaching this subject in a lighthearted mood because I’m a big fan of KSE (they got me back into metal and have inspired me in so many ways) and I just like discussing them.

Now me, I love him. He’s funny and he adds something to the show. Some may not find it necessary and that’s fine, it’s there opinion, just like this is mine.

Also, the shit he says on stage never bothered me. It’s all jokes. Just like when Blabbermouth posted that little snippet of Adam saying he wanted to produce Metallica’s next record to save them or whatever. He laughed it up, but the site practically imploded on itself because people dismissed the audio snippet of him saying this, read the title, and went straight to the hating. It’s just all in good fun.

@Andrew What’s his age got to do with anything? I’d rather him running around like a dork on stage then just stand there. Coughslayercough If you’ve watched interviews of him you know he can act serious when the time comes. Though I guess I shouldn’t be using interviews as a source for anything given the situation with Howard. But we know Adam can sit down and do work when the time comes with all the bands he’s produced. If you aren’t going to have fun on stage, why do it?

I disagree on the last statement as well. While I don’t have my crystal ball out at the moment, I can pretty much attest that their days aren’t “numbered”. With the way Joel has been speaking in recent interviews, even he believes they are still going strong. Obviously I cannot say for certain that that’s simply what his manager or Roadrunner told him to say, but given his tone he sounded pretty confident about it. Despite all the hates on blogs, forums, and last.fm, this band has millions of fans worldwide. Look at the South America videos on YouTube. They were acting like the Pope rolled into town.

It’s funny. I could start a blog and literally have nothing to say, but when it comes to commenting on other blogs I could write a fucking novel. Jesus.

    @ Divinity:

First and foremost, as you know, you and I have an agreement that none of this is personal.

I want you, and everyone to know one thing. People are allowed to post anonymously on this site, and on all other sites. This is my real name, so I’m not hiding behind a fake identity.

Killswitch Engage’s days are numbered. That is a bold statement, but I say that with certainty. I first started listening to the band nearly a decade ago. I loved what I heard. I loved the Heartache record. And then, as far as I’m concerned, it was all downhill. The new album is terrible. If that was the first record they released, their career would have never began.

And yes, his age has a lot to do with it. If you son was in his 30’s and acted like that, you’d cry daily. You might even contemplate suicide. No matter which way you spin it, it’s embarrassing. And you have the same argument as everyone – “he’s having fun.” What is he? 4? You say that to kids in a sandbox that do something stupid. You say that to a dog who eats your shoes. It’s a crap excuse.

Killswitch Engage is NOT taking ANY of their old fans with them because they are marketig themselves to skinny 13 year old kids with mops on their heads. How many of the fans they had since the beginning are with them now? Those fans grew up. They evolved. Only 13 year old kids would eat Adam D up. Do you know how many of his peers that have been on this show have said the same thing? They all say he’s really talented, but all comment on his annoying behavior.

Killswitch Engage has NOTHING on All That Remains. Of that Western Massachusetts metal trilogy, All That Remains rule over Shadows Fall and Killswitch Engage.

Most metal bands are heralded in South America. If you and I formed a band and played down there, the red carpet would be rolled out for us too.

I actually have my reasons for hiding behind a fake name. It has to do with someone else, but I’m not going to get into it. 😛

I liked the new album, but As Daylight Dies has the strongest hold on me as one of Howard’s albums and of course AOJB has a place in my heart as well.

The he’s having fun thing was actually a quote. Not so much a quote word for word, but it was something that was stated in Set This World Ablaze DVD. Adam doesn’t care if people hate it or love it, it’s who he is.

I can’t really say anything about the son comment because right now I could be cool with it at 22, but in 8 years at 30 I could be a total prude.

Can you really account for EVERYONE though? I’ve seen more comments on YouTube and other sites where people love it more than hate it, but again, that’s not everyone.

I can’t comment on your opinion of ATR. I listened to a few songs, but nothing really stood out for me. I’ve tried to get into Shadows Fall, but again, nothing stood out for me. When it comes to “metalcore” KSE rule that section on my iPod.

I think that every band is going to make at least one bad album (unless they can’t even get a decent album going at all), especially when they are as popular as KSE. The sound is going to change and it’ll either be an improvement or a failure. While I loved the latest album, it took a while to grow on me and I count it as a flop. I think Brendan O’Brien was a bad choice, even if he didn’t take over the whole job of production. He did take over one of the most important elements: the vocals.

And yeah I agree South America has been deprived of metal too much, but they still have devoted fans world wide.

I just think we are going to disagree on this subject. 😛 And like I said before I’m biased about this, I can’t help it. KSE got me back into metal and music in general.

I think it’s perfectly fine for people like yourself to post under a different name. I just wanted to make clear that at times, this turns the volume up a million percent. People don’t want to make their opinions known under their real name. Some people say that’s smart. Some people say it’s fake. I think it’s a mixture of the two. However, my rule of thumb is to just say what you’d normally say during a conversation with an acquaintance. I don’t like internet tough guys.

We have to agree to disagree at this point. But, I respect that. If acting like a complete fool is the real Adam D, so be it. You can’t fault someone for being true to who they are. But, he still looks like a fool. If a serial killer takes out thirty people, and says, “I am who I am,” the person is still a serial killer. I’m not comparing a serial killer and someone acting foolishly, but you get the point.

And in case you’re wondering, I don’t have any problems with bands like Kiss, Slipknot, or even Wes Borland dressing a little odd on stage. There’s just something about Adam D that just comes off very bad, and believe me when I say this, outside of Killswitch fans, many, and I mean many hate it.

I’m glad that Divinity mentioned the KsE DVD, because I could NOT get my brain to remember the title! It was that DVD that made me a fan of Adam D BECAUSE of his goofiness.

I agree with Andrew that KsE are nearing the end of the line. I agree that they’ve lost most of their fans along the way and I agree that they have been on a musical decline since ‘The End Of Heartache.’ But since I watched ‘Set The World Ablaze,’ I definitely think that I ‘get him’ now.

Before, I found him continuously annoying… Now, he only annoys me after a while.

I think Andrew makes some pretty good points, but, generally, I think this topic is just a matter of opinion.

You can’t argue with success. Killswitch Engage is a profitable band. Adam’s peers also speak very highly of him as a producer.

I will put this as bluntly as possible. His stage “presence” annoys the crap out of everyone. Ask his contemporaries “off the record” and see what they say.

I appreciate your comment. Even though we agree to disagree, your opinion is always welcome.
