Interview with Egypt Central frontman John Falls

This show was a lot of fun. I have to admit, I’m not a fan of midday interviews. They’re typically formulaic and boring. This was an exception.

Egypt Central is now starting to make waves. “White Rabbit” has been killing it on radio and the band’s live performances are receiving overwhelmingly positive reviews. Heck, they blew Cold off the stage for an entire tour.

This is about John Falls, but let me stray for a second. We talked about it during the show, but I’ll address it again here. John had nothing but positive things to say about how Cold treated Egypt Central on tour. My gripe is with Scooter Ward. It’s not 1999. You don’t deserve that bus you’re on. Tenth Street Entertainment is beyond foolish to think your destroyed voice, coated with huge helpings of auto-tune and synchronized with a backing track, will sell tickets in 2011. I also saw them on a headlining tour with Nonpoint as direct support. 2/3 of the audience left after Cold’s third song throughout the run. Scooter Ward will have to swallow the bitter pill of failure after Superfiction tanks. He finally will have treated enough fans like crap to the point no one cares.

That was some accurate rant, huh? I mean, come on. They played to 100 people on a Friday night in Albany. Think about it. Back to John. We talked a lot about the success of “White Rabbit” as well as their back story in getting signed and getting records released. Darius also felt the need to comment on their bass player’s body. Now, if I said anything remotely close to that, I’d get assaulted in the comments section. So please, listen to the audio, and abuse Darius. It’s not fair that I always take all the heat.

You don’t have to be an Egypt Central fan to enjoy this show. If you’re not, I guarantee by the time you’re done listening, you’ll feel compelled to give them a shot. A big Thank You to John Falls for allowing us to deviate from the script and have a good time.

I’m off to shop for sunglasses.

You can catch Egypt Central currently on tour in select markets with Burn Halo. From there, you can catch them on two more tours, one with Hinder and one with Saving Abel.

White Rabbit is available now wherever you can buy good music.

I’ve been a visitor to this site sporadically since 2006. The reporting is always so-so, skewed and most of the times it is overly subjective. I never heard of Egypt Central but White Rabbit is played constantly so now I can put the 2 together. I didn’t comment until this point in all my years of this site but your note about Cold is so friggin accurate. Thank you for not being afraid to voice your opinion in a time when everyone is sensitive to a horn honking. I felt refreshed.

Darius’ comment was perfectly normal. Just because you want to talk about greasy Burger King you get on him for asking about some dude’s abs?

Thank you for keeping it real boys. I’m going to do the White Rabbit thing on Itunes when I’m home from work.

I turned on my Blackberry this morning and saw it was updated with some audio from AKF so I listened on the train. The 7 train was empty this morning. Less people = less smell = better for me.

I never heard of this band but they’re sick. Been Youtubing their stuff all day at work so far. It just goes to show you how pathetic NYC is for rock radio nowadays. 101.9 has become talk too.

There wasn’t anything wrong with Darius comment. If you want to be fat Andrew, be fat in your own time.

I thought the streak of consecutive shows without a 7D mention would continue. Thank you John for bringing it up. Now for the next 2 f*cking years we’re going to have to hear about 7D.

I never heard of them either. Thx NYC for prioritizing Katy Perry.

    This band rocks.

I met Scooter Ward in Dallas once. I asked him if he would be so kind to sign a poster I had of them. This was 2001 or so. He signed and I said thank you. I then said I appreciate it. He said – YOU SHOULD.

I hope that band and him personally fails.

    You speak the truth brother.

    Collier,

Speaking of Burger King, it is a monstrosity they abolished an official version of a dollar menu. $1.29. Seriously?

Love Egypt Central. Hear them on Sirius constantly. Crank them constantly.

To anyone who thinks Andrew’s rant about Cold is harsh, it’s not. 100% true.

I never would have thought these guys went through so much business turmoil prior to this record being released. I’m prepared to take more of listen in Rhapsody.

I was a Cold fan at one time too. ADKOP was good for what it was and what was going on in Scooter’s life at the time. The dude has such a sense of entitlement. They headlined an event for WCCC in Hartford on ADKOP. It was some radio show. He was such a d*ck to everyone that asked him for autographs. He’s sitting at an autograph tent looking as if he just saw his whole family slayed in front of him, chain smoking.

I went to check them out in Hartford with Nonpoint. He sounded like the pits man. It was hard to watch. Nonpoint saved the show.

    1. You took the words right out of my mouth about Cold. Egypt Central put them to shame. I’ve been wanting to see Cold since 2003. I got there eary and saw Egypt Central by accident. Going from them to Cold was like going from coke to a church service.

    2. John looks like kinda a dick in all the online photos. He’s much nicer talking than his pics make him seem.

Ok so I guess I’ve had better experiences with cold than everyone else did. The guys were from that band were really nice. Even scooter. They even helped me get into one of there shows that I wasn’t old enough to get into in the first place. But I guess everyone has an opinion.. And I’m sure most of thats commented so far is older than me but don’t you guys think its kinda wrong to be wishing failure for that band. It really shouldn’t matter if he didn’t sign a few autographs and was a dick to some ppl. y’all should quit listening to them because of their music not because of the reasons y’all were stating.

But anyways joey chicago has a very nice body! Pick up there white rabbit cd its amazing. john is the nicest guy and blake, the drummer, and jeff, the guitarist…. I love egypt central not just because there my friends but their music is great….

Your opinions are always welcome on our site.

Cold: Cold will fail on its own. I completely understand what you’re saying about judging them based on their music and not other factors. Please note when I speak of Cold, I speak primarily of Scooter Ward. He has treated people like garbage on every level – from fans, to office people, and the list goes on and on. He believes he’s a rock star. He’s not.

Egypt Central: They’re great and John Falls was an awesome guest. Darius loved Joey Chicago’s body.
