Buried Treasures: Rusty – “Groovy Dead,” “Wake Me,” and “Misogyny”

Hi everyone. Last night I was toggling between Dion and In Flames, specifically “I Wonder Why” and “Trigger.” It doesn’t make much sense to me either.

On the album front, I reacquainted myself with Bruce Springsteen’s 1975 classic, Born To Run. Individually, the songs don’t work for me. Sure, the title track can, at times, but as a collective whole, I love this record. It’s definitely one of the more legendary album covers. RIP Clarence Clemons.

Today’s Buried Treasure piece features a long-forgotten and long-inactive Canadian band named Rusty. They’ve toured with No Doubt, Bush, Everclear and many others. I bought their album Fluke after hearing the single “Wake Me.” I believe I heard it on the radio, but I’m not entirely sure. It’s loaded with gems. I highly advise checking it out. And, if you’re interested, you can download , free of charge, in MP3 format, with a no-risk free trial of eMusic here.

It’s an awesome rock record. Undeniable.

Excellent choice! I’m uncertain as to why they never caught on in the U.S. They toured extensively. This is a diamond in the rough. It’s one of my favs from the 90s. Sadly, I never listened to their other work. Maybe I will now.

The “videos” don’t do these songs justice.

I came here from a post on a local music board in Toronto. Do yourselfs a favor – buy this CD. The Youtube videos are an idea, but you need to crank quality audio of Fluke.

Someone in America supporting Rusty? Say it ain’t so!

They did some one offs in Canada recently after being gone since forever. Come up North, good things might happen.

This is quite good. I saw all the bands you mentioned tour around that time and don’t remember Rusty being on any of the bills.

Speaking of Everclear, they’re releasing yet another re-release album where they rerecord old songs. I know no one cares but it’s twice now they’ve done this.
