Buried Treasures – Discover New Music – 6/10/10

Good morning! Welcome to a new addition to All Knowing Force that will be called Buried Treasures. Since I’m always asked what I’m listening to, now you’ll know.

Life of Agony – Ugly – Other Side of the River – 1995 (Click –> to check out all the Life of Agony tracks you can download and keep with a FREE TRIAL of eMusic)

This is one of my favorite tracks from this often overlooked band. Is it me or does Keith Caputo sound a little like Ed Roland from Collective Soul?

Well, the track above this was track four from the record, and the fifth is just as good.

Traveling Wilburys – Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1 – Handle With Care – 1988

The Traveling Wilburys were a supergroup consisting of rock legends Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, George Harrison, Bob Dylan and Jeff Lynne. They released two albums, and the first is a total gem.

The Cars – Heartbeat City – Magic – 1984

My father had one of their cassettes (remember cassettes?) laying around when I was a kid. I listened to it religiously, and became unhealthily obsessed with Ric Ocasek. This video was way ahead of its time, and still to this day, is absolutely awesome.

I wish the masses were aware how much influence Ocasek has had on modern music and how little credit the genius receives.

Roy Orbison and Bob Dylan were never my cup of tea (and I am unfamiliar with Jeff Lynne) but seeing Petty and Harrison collaborate was a beautiful thing. I acquired the album that you mentioned on cassette in the mid-90s, then upgraded to CD – it hasn’t left my iPod. It’s that good.

Who did Ric Ocasek give us? Weezer? Nada Surf? Love The Cars but those two bands? Other than the first album Weezer should be persona non grata.

If Keith Caputo weren’t such an epic whiner, LoA could have been much more than they were.
