Buried Treasures – Discover New Music – 4/11/11 – Rolling Stones 1989-1994 Edition
Today, it’s all about one of, if not THE greatest band EVER, The Rolling Stones.
Steel Wheels, their 1989 “comeback” record was released to lukewarm reviews. It’s a solid listen. My favorite track on the album is “Almost Hear You Sigh.” It was released as the third single and had moderate success on the charts. Overall, on Steel Wheels, Mick and Keith are at their strongest on the ballads. Also included here is the closing track, “Slipping Away,” sung by Mr. Keith Richards. It grows on you.
In sticking with the Stones (totally organic, I assure you – this was not planned), let’s move this over to Voodoo Lounge. 1994. “Thru And Thru.” It’s the second-to-last track. A brilliant song that never received its due. As with the Steel Wheels tracks above, give it some time to grow on you. Keith sings on this one as well. Oh, and then there’s “The Worst.” Yep, sung by Keith. There are some great live versions out there, but the video below is with Keith, Willie Nelson, and Sheryl Crow. Awesome. Last but not least, there’s “I Go Wild.”
Enjoy. Have a great week everyone.
