All Knowing Force Official Server Update – Goodbye Yahoo

Update 9/13, 11pm: All Knowing Force will remain hosted by Yahoo. There were several factors that contributed to the decision. We feared that switching to a new server in the midst of the current Yahoo/WordPress disconnect that’s current plaguing 1000’s of sites might make matters worse. We have developed several workarounds that will allow us to keep providing content. I’ve closed this article to comments. It will be moved out of the Headline section by the afternoon on Wednesday. Thank you.

All Knowing Force is currently hosted by Yahoo and powered by
WordPress.

After a tumultuous two weeks, I made the difficult decision to end All Knowing Force’s multi-year relationship with Yahoo. It came to my attention that Yahoo’s servers do not meet the requirements for the latest version of WordPress. The error message received when attempting to upgrade is, “You cannot update because WordPress 3.2.1 requires PHP version 5.2.4 or higher and MySQL version 5.0 or higher. You are running PHP version 4.3.11 and MySQL version 4.1.14.” This is not All Knowing Force-specific, but a pandemic plaguing every Yahoo-hosted WordPress-powered site.

I called Yahoo multiple times and was told their servers would be upgraded to meet the requirements of the latest version of WordPress by the beginning of 2012. That’s unacceptable. The interface for posting articles is malfunctioning and the only way to circumvent the problem would be to write the HTML code manually. That would take way too much time.

I’m quite perplexed that Yahoo is refusing to meet the needs of their customers. Yes, the customer service representative was pleasant and helpful. Yes, he stated they were aware of the issue. Unfortunately, when a company with the market share and size of Yahoo projects to take more than three months to resolve an issue impacting 10,000+ users…actually, draw your own conclusions. Structurally, there’s almost certainly no way that Yahoo can return to the once dominant position it occupied before Google entered the arena and Facebook became what it is.

Thank you for understanding. I will continuously update this post. We will have a new home in the next 48 hours.

I’m a real estate broker and used WordPress to handle the functionality of my personal site. I hosted with Host Gator. I had the same problem. My site stopped working and all the properties I was listing disappeared. I lost all the date. Be lucky you all still have your articles. I learned a hard lesson to backup everything and pay attention to the server upgrades or lack of upgrades.

    Good luck to you.

Yahoo is spiraling out of control and has been for years. That woman CEO they hired kept everything afloat for a bit and then there was another dropoff. They can’t compete with Google. While Google works to integrate their network with their applications Yahoo is struggling to maintain its identity. In the long run just go for a hosting company who only does hosting. Please get a show schedule for us.

    mAAT,

I want you to know that your comments for years on this site annoy the sh*t out of me. Grow up.

Can’t wait for new content fellas.

Back in the day I used Yahoo’s VOIP thing. I forget what it was called. I think yahoo Voice. Anyway, it stopped working altogether and then I went to Skype. Zero functionality beyond the basics.

Ignorance is bliss. Very chic of you all to come down on Yahoo because the idiot that runs this site puts a childish tombstone on the home page.

Yahoo is still a top player. Believe it.

    scavenger4282,

    A blatantly obvious Yahoo troll!

I can’t speak to the web hosting issues Andrew mentioned in this post. I can speak to the new Yahoo Plus mail design. They won’t let me switch back to Classic. They f*cked up their entire mail program. No one likes it but they won’t reverse.

    LESS IS SOMETIMES MORE.

    scavenger4282,

I’m in full agreement that this must be a troll.

YAHOO FORCED EMAIL USERS TO CHANGE TO THEIR NEW TAB EMAIL PROGRAM CRAP. WE COULDN’T GO BACK TO CLASSIC WHICH WAS MUST SIMPLER TO USE.

I ****NEVER**** HAD THAT PROBLEM WITH GOOGLE MAIL.

A complete 180 on Nonpoint huh?

It’s easy to say AKF is always ridden with technical problems. I totally sympathize with you guys and what Laura said in the 1st post. You need your own server. Pay someone to manage it. The site is malfunctioning far too much. I’m not begrudging you though becuz I know how it can be to deal with all this technical jargon when all you want to do is post an article.

Someone I think said this above me but you need to go to a company where hosting is their core business.

I used to run my company using Yahoo Plus. No more. You’re better off running a company on the first ever release of Outlook.

I think Gmail needs competition because when they get stale there won’t be alternatives.

    Thanx for the update!

To the jerk above me who said the tombstone is childish………it is not.

It’s making a damn point. Everything on Yahoo sucks now. Everything. How many of your friends and colleagues still use their site? less than 10%. Trust me

Google is killing them in advertising too for end users and doing it the right way.

Deadmau5 is the new Lady Gaga. My girlfriend asked me to get us tickets. I couldn’t find a knife fast enough.
